Stress and Headaches

One of the primary causes of headaches is stress. Stress can play havoc in many areas of our lives and especially effects our health. It is no wonder that stress is so widely associated with headaches.

Tension headaches are those that usually involve shooting pain from your shoulders or neck to your head. You may feel a pain in your upper back that goes right into the back of your head. You may also feel pain on the top of your head and your temples. Stress headaches affect most of us now and then.

In order to relieve ourselves from tension headaches, we must first relieve the stress that is causing the tension headaches. The way to do this is to try to figure out just what exactly is bothering you.

You may know exactly what is bothering you and why. If this the case, it helps to talk it over with someone else. Sometimes, just letting the stress out will allow someone to overcome the stressor. Sharing a secret or a worry with another individual sometimes puts it into perspective and you can alleviate your stress in this manner.

If you do not know what is bothering you and feel stressed all the time, you should talk to your doctor. He or she may be able to recommend either a temporary stress relief drug or some sort of therapy. Everyone feels overwhelmed and stressed at some point in their lives - it is nothing to be ashamed of. We all need help dealing with stressors now and then.

Another way that you can try to relieve your stress and the tension headaches that are sure to follow is to get a massage. Massage therapy often helps with stress and tension headaches. Massage therapy can be performed by a licensed massage therapist in a salon or by someone who practices chiropractic medicine. Massage therapy can do wonders to relieve stress as well as tension headaches.

Tension headaches can also benefit from aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is practiced in certain salons throughout the world and is often used in conjunction with massage. It is a good way to get rid of the stress that affects our every day life and totally relax.

Another alternative stress relieving therapy that can help with tension headaches is reflexology. This amounts to manipulating the feet and hands so that it releases tension. You may be able to feel the tension float right out of your body and your tension headaches can disappear with it.

You can also practice yoga to get rid of tension headaches and stress. When practiced with meditation, yoga can be very beneficial at relieving stress and tension headaches. In order to begin yoga and meditation, make a commitment to practice this ancient healing art for at least a month to relieve your tension.

If you suffer from stress, chances are that you will also suffer from the headaches caused by stress. In order to eliminate the tension headaches, you should concentrate on reducing the stress.

Herbal Cures For Headaches That Work

Although doctors will not usually try to get you to use herbal cures for most ailments and will push prescription drugs, when it comes to headaches, most doctors are all for trying herbal cures as well as alternative medicine to alleviate the pain of the headaches. This is because the current medical treatment for headaches have some severe side effects. For this reason, many doctors are hesitant to prescribe medicine for headaches other than over the counter pain relievers.

Herbal remedies are considered to be an alternate form of healing for many different ailments. There are herbal remedies to treat headaches as well as a variety of different illnesses and conditions. In many cases, herbal remedies have proven to be effective in the treatment of headaches.

One way that you can use herbal remedies to treat headaches that work is to use them ass part of aromatherapy. Aromatherapy employs the use of herbs by extracting their essential oils and using them as a treatment for a variety of conditions. The essential oils must be 100 percent pure and derived from the herb in order to work. They can be inhaled through a diffuser or they can be rubbed on the body as a form of massage.

To treat headaches, try the essential oil of lavender. Lavender is one of the few essential oils that is safe to put directly on the skin. You can purchase lavender essential oils in any health food store and use it to rub on your skin to relieve the pain from headaches.

One caveat to using herbals to treat headaches is that you should never combine herbal remedies with traditional medicine as there can be a reaction. If you are using herbal remedies to treat your headaches, you should talk to your doctor if you have also been prescribed regular medicine. This is because some medications can interact with herbal remedies.

Another herbal remedy that works to cure headaches is rosemary. When you use rosemary as a massage oil, it should be mixed with a carrier oil such as vegetable oil so that it does not cause irritation on the skin. You should put one ounce of carrier oil to about five drops of rosemary in order to get a good massage oil to treat headaches.

If you visit any health food store, chances are that they will have herbal remedies to cure headaches in both pill and topical treatment form. Before you use any of these herbal remedies, you should talk to your doctor about a possible interaction between medications that you may be taking already. While most herbal remedies to treat headaches are perfectly safe, there are some cases where you might experience an adverse reaction with other medications, so talk to your physician to be on the safe side.
