Alternative Cures For Headaches

People who suffer from headaches will do just about anything to make the pain of the headaches go away. Headaches plague most people at one time or another and are one of the primary reasons why people end up missing work. If you suffer from headaches, you are one of millions looking for a cure.

There are several treatments for headaches, a common malady, but no cures. Those who are prone to headaches will continue to get them. Some of the most common causes of headaches are:

Hormone fluctuation (this is when a woman will get headaches around the time of her periods)

Stress

Allergies - usually related to some sort of food

Sinus allergy headaches

Migraine headaches (no known cause)

Eye strain

High blood pressure

Contrary to what you may believe, brain tumors are not the likely cause of headaches. As a matter of fact, unless the headache is so severe that the person passes out or cannot get up out of bed, a brain tumor will not be considered as a cause for headaches. In most cases, headaches are nothing to worry about. The only time you have to worry about headaches is if you have a sudden and severe headache that will not subside. This can be the symptom of a burst blood vessel in the brain and needs medical attention.

In most cases, you will never know the reason for your headaches, especially if you are unlucky enough to suffer from migraine headaches. Although some doctors believe that migraine headaches are the result of allergies, there is no medical evidence supporting this theory.

Some natural remedies for headaches work just as well as medications without the harmful side effects. One herbal cure for headaches is lavender. This can be purchased as an essential oil and can be rubbed on the head to alleviate the symptoms of headaches.

Other alternative remedies for headaches include acupuncture and massage treatments. Both of these have proven to be effective at curing headaches. If your headache is caused by stress, you may try St. John's Wort as an alternative cure for stress caused headaches.

Headaches can be very problematic but are usually not a sign of serious illness. Other natural remedies for headaches include an icepack on the head. This can help relive some of the pain. Still yet another alternative and unusual cure for headaches is to drink cola out of an aluminum can with a straw. Something about the caffeine in the cola reacting with the aluminum is supposed to cure headaches.

When you are talking about alternative cures for headaches, be advised that what works for one person may not work for another. Try different alternative cures to help your headaches and you may find that you come across the perfect cure.

Herbal Cures For Headaches That Work

Although doctors will not usually try to get you to use herbal cures for most ailments and will push prescription drugs, when it comes to headaches, most doctors are all for trying herbal cures as well as alternative medicine to alleviate the pain of the headaches. This is because the current medical treatment for headaches have some severe side effects. For this reason, many doctors are hesitant to prescribe medicine for headaches other than over the counter pain relievers.

Herbal remedies are considered to be an alternate form of healing for many different ailments. There are herbal remedies to treat headaches as well as a variety of different illnesses and conditions. In many cases, herbal remedies have proven to be effective in the treatment of headaches.

One way that you can use herbal remedies to treat headaches that work is to use them ass part of aromatherapy. Aromatherapy employs the use of herbs by extracting their essential oils and using them as a treatment for a variety of conditions. The essential oils must be 100 percent pure and derived from the herb in order to work. They can be inhaled through a diffuser or they can be rubbed on the body as a form of massage.

To treat headaches, try the essential oil of lavender. Lavender is one of the few essential oils that is safe to put directly on the skin. You can purchase lavender essential oils in any health food store and use it to rub on your skin to relieve the pain from headaches.

One caveat to using herbals to treat headaches is that you should never combine herbal remedies with traditional medicine as there can be a reaction. If you are using herbal remedies to treat your headaches, you should talk to your doctor if you have also been prescribed regular medicine. This is because some medications can interact with herbal remedies.

Another herbal remedy that works to cure headaches is rosemary. When you use rosemary as a massage oil, it should be mixed with a carrier oil such as vegetable oil so that it does not cause irritation on the skin. You should put one ounce of carrier oil to about five drops of rosemary in order to get a good massage oil to treat headaches.

If you visit any health food store, chances are that they will have herbal remedies to cure headaches in both pill and topical treatment form. Before you use any of these herbal remedies, you should talk to your doctor about a possible interaction between medications that you may be taking already. While most herbal remedies to treat headaches are perfectly safe, there are some cases where you might experience an adverse reaction with other medications, so talk to your physician to be on the safe side.
