Understanding Headaches and Natural Cures

Most people have experienced headaches at one point in our lives. Headaches are a common ailment and affect a good percentage of the population at one time or another. Although they are common, they can also be very troublesome. There are different types of headaches and many end up costing millions of dollars each year in businesses from lost wages. Headaches are one of the primary reasons why some people miss work.

Some types of headaches are environmental. There are things that can trigger these headaches. They are usually the result of food allergies. Other things that can trigger environmental headaches are toxins in the air such as cigarette smoke. People who smoke tend to have headaches more than those who do not smoke. If there is cigarette smoke in the air, or pet dander, those who are allergic will react by getting headaches.

Food allergies also trigger some headaches. Some people have a severe allergic reaction to chocolate to the point that they get disabling headaches when they consume this treat. For this reason, they should stay away from chocolate.

Other headaches are caused by hormone fluctuations. These can be categorized by headaches that women get when they are menstruating. This is a very common occurrence and usually subsides when menstruating ceases. When a woman enters menopause, she will find that she no longer gets headaches.

Migraine headaches affect millions of people and can be very debilitating. They are usually categorized by severe pain, sensitivity to light and there is no respite with traditional pain relief. Migraine headaches affect so many people that there are headache clinics across the country to deal with these types of headaches. Although they are thought to be caused by allergies, no one knows why some people are prone to getting migraine headaches.

Cluster headaches usually affect men and are categorized by having pain on one side of the head. They can be caused by eye strain or environmental factors and are usually hereditary.

Sinus headaches are characterized by severe pain in the front lobes of the head. They are an allergic reaction or the result of a sinus infection. They can be alleviated by the use of decongestants.

Herbal remedies can be used to treat pain caused by headaches and have been successful in treating pain throughout the ages. Herbal remedies that work include lavender and rosemary. Both have a track record successful in treating the pain of headaches.

There are also natural remedies that are available to treat all sorts of headaches that are available in health food stores and online. Before you resort to any natural remedy to treat your headaches, you should speak with your doctor to make sure that the remedy will not interact in a negative way with any other medication you may be taking.

Herbal Cures For Headaches That Work

Although doctors will not usually try to get you to use herbal cures for most ailments and will push prescription drugs, when it comes to headaches, most doctors are all for trying herbal cures as well as alternative medicine to alleviate the pain of the headaches. This is because the current medical treatment for headaches have some severe side effects. For this reason, many doctors are hesitant to prescribe medicine for headaches other than over the counter pain relievers.

Herbal remedies are considered to be an alternate form of healing for many different ailments. There are herbal remedies to treat headaches as well as a variety of different illnesses and conditions. In many cases, herbal remedies have proven to be effective in the treatment of headaches.

One way that you can use herbal remedies to treat headaches that work is to use them ass part of aromatherapy. Aromatherapy employs the use of herbs by extracting their essential oils and using them as a treatment for a variety of conditions. The essential oils must be 100 percent pure and derived from the herb in order to work. They can be inhaled through a diffuser or they can be rubbed on the body as a form of massage.

To treat headaches, try the essential oil of lavender. Lavender is one of the few essential oils that is safe to put directly on the skin. You can purchase lavender essential oils in any health food store and use it to rub on your skin to relieve the pain from headaches.

One caveat to using herbals to treat headaches is that you should never combine herbal remedies with traditional medicine as there can be a reaction. If you are using herbal remedies to treat your headaches, you should talk to your doctor if you have also been prescribed regular medicine. This is because some medications can interact with herbal remedies.

Another herbal remedy that works to cure headaches is rosemary. When you use rosemary as a massage oil, it should be mixed with a carrier oil such as vegetable oil so that it does not cause irritation on the skin. You should put one ounce of carrier oil to about five drops of rosemary in order to get a good massage oil to treat headaches.

If you visit any health food store, chances are that they will have herbal remedies to cure headaches in both pill and topical treatment form. Before you use any of these herbal remedies, you should talk to your doctor about a possible interaction between medications that you may be taking already. While most herbal remedies to treat headaches are perfectly safe, there are some cases where you might experience an adverse reaction with other medications, so talk to your physician to be on the safe side.
